How ThingSIM billing works
When billing starts for an IoT SIM in Ireland, what happens at the data allowance, and what happens if a payment fails.
ThingSIM is billed per active SIM, per month, on a card, in euro and ex VAT. There is no contract and no charge for SIMs that aren't switched on.
When does billing start?
Billing starts when you activate, or automatically 30 days after we despatch your SIM (30 days after it is issued, for an eSIM); we email you at least 5 days before. SIMs arrive inactive, so you can order stock a few weeks ahead of an install. The only charge before then is the one-off €2.49 per SIM. Monthly plans are billed in advance.
What does a SIM cost each month?
Its plan's price on Ireland multi-network, from €0.99 a month for 50 MB up to €8.99 for 5 GB. All your active SIMs are on one monthly bill, ex VAT, under the VAT reverse charge.
What happens when a SIM uses all its data?
It pauses. There is no overage charge and no surprise bill. You can upgrade that SIM straight away, paying only the difference for the rest of the month, and it starts working again; or leave it, and it resumes when the allowance resets at the start of the next month.
What if a payment is late?
If a payment is late, we email you and give you at least 3 days to pay. If it is still unpaid, your SIMs may be suspended until you pay, and no new SIMs can be activated while the account is in arrears.
Can I pay annually or prepay for an IoT SIM?
Not at the moment. Every plan is billed monthly, in advance, with no contract; payment terms are confirmed with your order.
Can I stop a SIM?
Yes, from the portal. Pausing keeps the SIM and its number so you can turn it back on later; stopping it is permanent.
