Order 50 MBWhat an M2M SIM card is, what to look for in one, and ThingSIM's multi-network M2M SIMs for Irish businesses, billed per active SIM with no contract.
An M2M (machine to machine) SIM card is a data SIM for a device rather than a phone: an alarm communicator, a GSM gate opener, a card machine, a tracker, a meter, a router or a camera. “IoT SIM” is the newer name for the same thing. Every ThingSIM is an M2M SIM.
Businesses order ThingSIM M2M SIMs with an order request, which we confirm by email, and the SIMs arrive switched off. Billing starts when you activate, or automatically 30 days after we despatch your SIM (30 days after it is issued, for an eSIM); we email you at least 5 days before. The Ireland multi-network plan roams across Vodafone, Three and eir, from €0.99 a month per SIM.
Several networks, not one. A machine stays where it was installed and lives with the signal there. A multi-network SIM uses whichever network is strongest at that spot. ThingSIM's Ireland multi-network plan roams across Vodafone, Three and eir.
The right technology. M2M devices use 4G data, LTE-M or NB-IoT, and some are configured or report by SMS. Every ThingSIM supports all four. See LTE-M vs NB-IoT.
Small allowances at small prices. Most machines send little data. An alarm communicator or a card machine often fits in 50 MB a month; a router or a camera needs much more. The data guide works through common devices.
No surprise bills. A device that misbehaves should not run up overage. A ThingSIM pauses at its allowance; upgrade it straight away from the portal or wait for the monthly reset.
Billing that suits stock. Installers often hold SIMs ahead of jobs. A ThingSIM is billed from the day it is switched on, or 30 days after despatch with an email 5 days before, so stock ordered a few weeks ahead costs nothing extra.
A way to reach the device. Every SIM gets a private IP address. If you need to connect to the device from outside, add a static public IP for €9.49 a month, or use a private APN, IPSec VPN or cloud interconnect from the extras.
