SIMs for 4G CCTV cameras.
Building sites, depots and yards rarely have a line where the camera needs to go. A ThingSIM in the camera or its 4G router gets the pictures back without one.
What the kit needs
Enough data for pictures
Video is heavy, so cameras need the larger plans. Event clips need far less than a live stream; start big and move down once you know.
Reachable when you need it
Watch live or pull footage with a static (fixed) public IP, or keep cameras private and reach them over an IPSec VPN from your monitoring centre.
Moves with the site
When the job finishes the camera moves on and its SIM goes with it. Pause the SIM between jobs from the portal.
How it connects
5 GB, Ireland multi-network, one SIM per camera or site router.
Streaming around the clock needs more than any plan here holds; talk to us about a site with several live cameras.
Questions people ask
Do I need a fixed IP SIM for CCTV?
Only if you connect in to the camera or recorder from outside, for example to watch live by its address. In that case add a static public IP for €9.49 a month per SIM. Cameras that send their footage out to a cloud service or your recorder work on the private IP address every SIM comes with.
Why can't I reach my camera on an ordinary SIM?
Mobile networks put SIMs behind shared addresses (CGNAT), so nothing on the internet can start a connection to the camera. A static public IP gives the SIM its own fixed address; an IPSec VPN lets you reach it privately from your monitoring centre instead.
How much data does a CCTV camera use?
It depends on resolution and how much the camera sends. Event clips need far less than a live stream. Start on 5 GB (€8.99 a month) and move down once you know; a site streaming around the clock from several cameras needs more than any plan here, so talk to us.
Is a static public IP safe for a camera?
A public address can be reached from anywhere, so pair it with your own firewall rules and change the camera's default password. To keep cameras off the public internet altogether, use an IPSec VPN.
Can the SIM move with the camera between sites?
Yes. The SIM roams across the Irish networks, so it works at the next site without changes, and you can pause it from the portal between jobs.
Should the SIM go in the camera or a router?
Either. A camera with its own 4G modem takes the SIM directly; several cameras on one site can share a SIM in a 4G router. Size the plan for everything behind it.
Can I use a SIM in a solar or battery 4G camera?
Yes. Solar and battery cameras usually upload motion clips or snapshots rather than streaming, which is what fits a monthly allowance. A snapshot-only camera often fits 1 GB at €2.49 a month; motion clips with occasional live viewing usually fit 5 GB at €8.99.
