Business data SIM cards for routers and devices in Ireland

Choosing a SIM Published

Data-only SIMs for business kit such as 4G routers, card machines and cameras, roaming across the Irish networks, no contract, billed monthly per active SIM.

A business data SIM is a data-only SIM for the equipment a business runs: a 4G router, a card machine, a camera, an alarm, a GSM gate opener or a sign. ThingSIM sells data SIM cards to businesses in Ireland, ordered with a short order request and with no contract, and bills each active SIM monthly.

The Ireland multi-network plan roams across Vodafone, Three and eir, using whichever is strongest where the device is, from €0.99 a month per SIM for 50 MB up to €8.99 for 5 GB.

Why not a phone SIM?

A consumer SIM assumes a person with a phone. It is tied to one network, it is billed every month whether it is used or not, and its terms often limit use in routers and other devices. A data SIM built for devices avoids all three. The IoT SIM vs phone SIM guide compares them in full.

Choosing a size

Most business devices use far less data than a phone. A card machine or alarm communicator often fits in 50 MB a month. A router used as broadband backup needs between 1 and 5 GB or more, depending on what fails over to it. A camera that uploads video needs the most. The data guide works through common devices.

Using a business data SIM in a 4G router

Put the SIM in the router, activate it in the portal and copy the APN shown against it into the router's mobile settings. Setting up a 4G router covers the steps. If you need to reach the router from outside, add a static public IP for €9.49 a month.
