How ThingSIM billing works
When billing starts, what happens at the data allowance, and why a device is never cut off over a bill.
ThingSIM is billed per active SIM, per month, on a card. There is no contract and no charge for SIMs that aren't switched on.
When does billing start?
On the day you activate a SIM in the portal. SIMs arrive inactive, so you can order stock for installs weeks or months away and pay nothing until each device goes live. The only charge before then is the one-off £2.00 per SIM.
What does a SIM cost each month?
Its plan's price, from £0.65 a month for 50 MB on UK 3-network or £0.90 on UK 4-network, up to £8.85 for 5 GB on UK 4-network. All your active SIMs are on one monthly card payment.
What happens when a SIM uses all its data?
It pauses. There is no overage charge and no surprise bill. You can upgrade that SIM straight away, paying only the difference for the rest of the month, and it starts working again; or leave it, and it resumes when the allowance resets at the start of the next month.
What if a card payment fails?
We hold new orders and plan changes until the payment is sorted. We don't switch off SIMs that are already working in the field over a billing problem.
Is there a discount for paying annually?
Not at the moment. Annual billing is twelve months charged up front at the same monthly price.
Can I stop a SIM?
Yes, from the portal. Pausing keeps the SIM and its number so you can turn it back on later; stopping it is permanent.
