Ordering a few IoT SIMs or setting up a fleet

Fleets & developers Published

When an order request for up to 25 IoT SIMs is the right route in Ireland, and when a larger or more specialised fleet is better set up with us.

ThingSIM is built so that someone who needs one IoT SIM, or a handful, can order with a short order request and get a device working soon after. Larger fleets, and projects with private networking, are set up with us instead. Here is where the line falls.

Ordering a few IoT SIMs: up to 25 per order request

An order request suits most businesses that need a SIM for a device, or a small number of them:

  • Pick a plan and press Order: it opens an order request with the plan named. Say how many SIMs (up to 25), eSIM or physical, and your company's VAT number. We confirm the order by email and set up your SIMs.
  • Choose eSIMs, delivered as a QR code in the portal once your order is confirmed, or physical trio SIMs, posted from the UK to addresses in Ireland and the rest of the EU. Either is €2.49 per SIM, once. On a physical SIM delivery the carrier may charge import VAT, customs duty or a handling fee, which you pay; an eSIM avoids postage and import charges.
  • SIMs arrive inactive. Billing starts when you activate, or automatically 30 days after we despatch your SIM (30 days after it is issued, for an eSIM); we email you at least 5 days before.
  • Billed monthly per active SIM, with no contract. Payment terms are confirmed with your order.
  • Add a static public IP to any SIM for €9.49 a month.

Ireland multi-network starts at €0.99 a month per SIM for 50 MB, ex VAT. Europe plans are on the plans page too.

When to talk to us instead

Some needs are better set up together than ordered off the shelf:

Need Why it is set up with us
More than 25 SIMs Larger fleets are set up with you
Private APN Your SIMs on their own network and address range
IPSec VPN or cloud interconnect Agreed with your firewall or cloud region
Northern Ireland, or 20 GB on Europe We confirm the right plan, and 20 GB is priced on request
Devices installed for your own customers Accounts, keys and webhooks arranged for that

For any of these, talk to us about a fleet and we will set it up with you.

Starting small and growing

Many fleets start as a handful of SIMs. Nothing about that locks you in: the same portal, API and plans carry on as the number grows, and you can talk to us about private networking or larger volumes whenever you need them. If you already expect to manage devices from your own systems, look at activating SIMs with the API and running a small fleet.

If a payment is late

If a payment is late, we email you and give you at least 3 days to pay. If it is still unpaid, your SIMs may be suspended until you pay, and no new SIMs can be activated while the account is in arrears. See how ThingSIM billing works.

Common questions

How many SIMs can I order at once?

Up to 25 per order request. For more, talk to us and we will set the fleet up with you.

Can I add a private APN to SIMs I already have?

Private APN, IPSec VPN and cloud interconnect are set up with us per project. A static public IP can be added to any SIM.

Is there a contract?

No. Each active SIM is billed monthly, and payment terms are confirmed with your order. Billing starts when you activate, or automatically 30 days after we despatch your SIM (30 days after it is issued, for an eSIM); we email you at least 5 days before.
