Order 1 GBSet up a ThingSIM data SIM in a Teltonika RUT240 4G router in Ireland: SIM size and plan, the mini SIM, RutOS APN and roaming settings, troubleshooting.
The Teltonika RUT240 is a compact 4G router with Wi-Fi for vending machines, cameras and signs. It takes a mini SIM, and a ThingSIM connects on whichever of Vodafone, Three and eir is strongest once the APN is set in RutOS.
Specifications and menu paths checked against Teltonika's own documentation on 3 November 2026; sources are listed at the end. Menus can move between firmware versions, so if yours differs, follow the manual for your version.
A compact router with two Ethernet ports and Wi-Fi. Teltonika ended ordering on 31 July 2023 and supports it until 31 July 2028; the RUT200 replaces it.
Compatible. It supports LTE Cat 4, with 3G and 2G fallback. Teltonika lists LTE bands 1, 3, 5, 7, 8 and 20 (or 1, 3, 7, 8, 20 and 28, depending on the version) for the versions sold in Europe, which cover the 4G bands used by the Irish networks. The RUT240 has one mini SIM (2FF) slot, so order a physical ThingSIM and use the mini size. It has no eSIM.
For a kiosk, vending machine, meter or card terminal, Ireland multi-network 1 GB at €2.49 a month is a safe start; telemetry alone often fits in 250 MB at €1.29. Check usage in the portal after the first month.
The RUT240 is documented on Teltonika's older RutOS WebUI layout, where the APN is on the WAN page rather than the Mobile page. Teltonika keeps a separate manual for much older firmware; update the firmware if your menus do not match.
Status → Network → Mobile shows the SIM card state, operator, network type, connected band, signal quality (RSSI, RSRP, RSRQ, SINR) and the data connection state, with buttons to restart the connection or switch SIM slot. Teltonika RMS shows the same remotely, and the ThingSIM portal shows the SIM's usage.
Yes. The RUT240's LTE bands cover the Irish networks. Put the SIM in, enter the APN shown in your ThingSIM portal, and leave Deny data roaming off.
A mini SIM (2FF), the largest size on the ThingSIM trio card.
Yes, it supports 2G as well as 3G and 4G, and ThingSIM SIMs work on 2G. No Irish operator has announced a date to switch off 2G, so 2G fallback still has value here; 3G is going instead, with Vodafone's 3G already off and eir switching its 3G off from October 2026.
Checked on 3 November 2026.
Roams across Vodafone, Three and eir and uses whichever is strongest where the device is.
