Tested with ThingSIM
Cradlepoint (Ericsson) routers and gateways, tested with ThingSIM.
Cradlepoint routers, now sold by Ericsson, run branches, vehicles and kiosks from NetCloud Manager. A ThingSIM goes in the modem's SIM slot and only needs the APN from the portal on that modem's profile.
Setting up a ThingSIM in NetCloud Manager and the router's local web interface
The APN goes in Connection Manager → modem → Edit → SIM/APN/AUTH. Copy it from the SIM's page in the ThingSIM portal; there is no username or password.
- Activate the SIM in the ThingSIM portal, then insert it in the slot marked SIM 1 until it clicks.
- Open the device UI, locally or from NetCloud Manager (Devices → the router → Remote Connect → Device UI).
- Go to Connection Manager, click the modem under WAN Interfaces, then Edit.
- In SIM/APN/AUTH set the access point configuration to Default Override and enter the APN from the portal. Leave authentication on Auto with no username or password.
- On the Modem tab, check Network Selection Mode is Auto, not Home Only. Home Only blocks roaming, which a ThingSIM needs.
- Save. The modem restarts and Status → Internet → Connections shows it connecting.
Two SIMs for failover
A dual-SIM modem shows one WAN interface per SIM slot in Connection Manager, each with its own APN, and only one connects at a time. Failover between SIMs and other WANs follows the WAN priority order. Disable a slot that holds a SIM that is not activated.
Checking it works
Status → Internet → Connections and the Connection Manager list in the device UI. NetCloud Manager tracks each modem's data usage across a fleet.

Does a ThingSIM work in a Cradlepoint router?
Yes. Cradlepoint routers take a standard data SIM. Add the APN from the portal to the modem's SIM settings, locally or in NetCloud Manager, and it connects.
Do I need a Cradlepoint plan as well as the SIM?
ThingSIM provides the mobile data. NetCloud is Cradlepoint's own management subscription and is separate; the router connects with a ThingSIM either way.
