Order 5 GBSet up a ThingSIM data SIM in a Teltonika RUTX50 5G router in Ireland: SIM size and plan, the RutOS APN and roaming settings, failover and troubleshooting.
The Teltonika RUTX50 is a dual-SIM 5G industrial router with gigabit Ethernet and Wi-Fi. It takes a mini SIM, and a ThingSIM connects on whichever of Vodafone, Three and eir is strongest once the APN is set in RutOS.
Specifications and menu paths checked against Teltonika's own documentation on 3 November 2026; sources are listed at the end. Menus can move between firmware versions, so if yours differs, follow the manual for your version.
A 5G router with two SIM slots, four gigabit LAN ports, a gigabit WAN port and dual-band Wi-Fi. Teltonika has announced end of ordering on 3 February 2027 and end of support on 3 August 2032, with the RUTM50 and RUTC50 as replacements.
Compatible. It supports 5G SA and NSA and LTE Cat 20, with 3G and no 2G. Teltonika lists LTE bands 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20, 28, 32, 38, 40, 41, 42 and 43 for the versions sold in Europe, which cover the 4G bands used by the Irish networks. The RUTX50 has two mini SIM (2FF) slots, so order a physical ThingSIM and use the mini size. Versions with 32xxxx codes also have an eSIM, but the physical SIM is the simpler choice.
ThingSIM plans use 4G, so a 5G router connects on 4G. As a main connection for a small site or cameras, start on Ireland multi-network 5 GB at €8.99 a month; as failover only, 1 GB at €2.49 is often enough.
Two-SIM models use one SIM at a time. Rules are set on the SIM Switch tab of Network → Mobile, with conditions such as weak signal, no network, network denied, data connection failure and data limit. Do not enable the On roaming condition for a ThingSIM: it would switch away from the SIM every time it connects, because a ThingSIM always roams. One Ireland multi-network ThingSIM already roams across Vodafone, Three and eir, so a second SIM mainly helps where a different provider or a private APN is wanted. Each active SIM is billed separately.
Status → Network → Mobile shows the SIM card state, operator, network type, connected band, signal quality (RSSI, RSRP, RSRQ, SINR) and the data connection state, with buttons to restart the connection or switch SIM slot. Teltonika RMS shows the same remotely, and the ThingSIM portal shows the SIM's usage.
Yes. The RUTX50's LTE bands cover the Irish networks. Put the SIM in, switch Auto APN off and enter the APN shown in your ThingSIM portal, and leave Deny data roaming off.
A mini SIM (2FF), the largest size on the ThingSIM trio card.
No. ThingSIM plans use 4G, so the router connects on 4G LTE, which is plenty for failover, telemetry and most cameras.
Checked on 3 November 2026.
Roams across Vodafone, Three and eir and uses whichever is strongest where the device is.
