Tested with ThingSIM
Milesight routers and gateways, tested with ThingSIM.
Milesight makes compact UR industrial routers and UG LoRaWAN gateways that send their sensors' data over 4G. A ThingSIM gives each gateway its uplink on whichever UK network reaches the site.
Setting up a ThingSIM in the Milesight router and gateway web interface
The APN goes in Network → Interface → Cellular. Copy it from the SIM's page in the ThingSIM portal; there is no username or password.
- Activate the SIM in the ThingSIM portal, then insert it in SIM1 before powering on, with all cellular antennas connected.
- Go to Network → Interface → Cellular (on UG gateways, Cellular Setting).
- Edit SIM1. In SIM-APN switch Auto APN off, enter the APN from the portal and set Authentication Type to None.
- In SIM Setting turn Roaming on. A ThingSIM always connects as a roaming SIM and will not register without it.
- Click Save, then Apply.
- On routers, enable the cellular interface under Network → Interface → Link Failover.
- Status → Cellular should show Connected.
Two SIMs for failover
Two-SIM routers use one SIM at a time. Priority is set in Network → Interface → Link Failover, and each SIM can switch on data limit, dial failure or ping failure. UG gateways take one SIM.
Checking it works
Status → Cellular shows the current SIM, network, signal quality and monthly data usage.

How much data does a Milesight LoRaWAN gateway use?
Sensor traffic is small; most gateways fit in 250 MB a month, £1.20 on UK 4-network. Check usage in the portal after the first month.
Does a ThingSIM work in a Milesight UR32?
Yes. Insert the SIM, set the APN from the portal in the cellular settings and the router connects.
