Reolink 4G Camera SIM Card Setup (Go Series)

Device setup Published

Set up a ThingSIM data SIM in a Reolink 4G camera (Go PT Ultra, Go Ultra, Go Plus and others): SIM size and plan, inserting the nano SIM, loading the APN from a microSD file, and troubleshooting.

Reolink's Go Series 4G cameras run on battery and solar and send clips over a mobile connection, for farms, building sites and holiday homes with no Wi-Fi. They take a nano SIM. There is no APN field in the Reolink app: a custom APN is loaded from a text file on a microSD card.

Specifications and menu paths checked against Reolink's own documentation on 3 November 2026; sources are listed at the end. Menus can move between firmware versions, so if yours differs, follow the manual for your version.

Battery-powered 4G security cameras: the Go PT Ultra (4K pan and tilt), Go Ultra (4K fixed), Go Plus (2K) and Go Ranger PT among them. They are set up in the Reolink app and send motion clips and live view over 4G.

Compatible with the Europe version. Reolink lists LTE bands 1, 3, 7, 8, 20 and 28 for the Europe version of the Go PT Ultra, Go Ultra and Go Plus, covering the 4G bands used by all four UK networks; Reolink names EE among recommended European carriers, which ThingSIM's UK 4-network plan includes. Buy the Europe version, not the US one. The Go PT Ultra and Go Ultra take a nano SIM (check the manual for other models), and Reolink says the Go Ultra does not support eSIM, so order a physical ThingSIM and push out the nano size.

Data use depends on how often the camera wakes and how much live view you watch. UK 4-network 1 GB at £2.40 a month suits a camera sending motion clips; a busy scene or long live viewing needs 5 GB. See CCTV camera data usage.

Insert the SIM

  1. Activate the SIM in the ThingSIM portal when you are ready to test; billing starts that day.
  2. Go PT Ultra and other pan-tilt models: rotate the lens to reach the rubber cover and open it. The SIM slot is above the microSD slot. Either eject the tray and seat the nano SIM in it, or, with no tray, push the SIM in with the gold contacts facing down and the cut corner going in first. Close and secure the rubber cover.
  3. Go Ultra: twist off the back cover, remove the battery, insert the nano SIM, refit the battery and tighten the cover, which powers the camera on.

Load the APN from a microSD Card

Reolink loads a custom APN from a file rather than from the app. You need a 16 GB or 32 GB microSD card formatted as FAT32.

  1. On a computer, create a plain text file named exactly my_custom_apn.txt with three lines: apn=, username= and password=.
  2. After apn=, enter the APN shown in your ThingSIM portal when you activate the SIM. Leave username= and password= empty.
  3. Save the file to the root of the microSD card.
  4. Power the camera off, insert the microSD card and power it on. Wait about 20 seconds.
  5. Press the reset button with a needle. The camera resets, imports the APN and reboots, and says “APN setting has been imported successfully. Network connection succeeded”.
  6. Add the camera in the Reolink app by tapping + and scanning its QR code.

Check It Is Working

The camera's voice prompts are the quickest check: a success message after the import, or a message such as “Not registered on network” or “Data call failed” if something is wrong. In the app, live view shows a 4G signal icon, and Settings → Device Info → Mobile info shows the SIM's ICCID. Then check usage in the ThingSIM portal.

Troubleshooting

  • “The SIM card is locked with a PIN”: the cameras do not support SIM PINs. Remove the PIN by putting the SIM in a phone first.
  • “Data call failed”: the APN was not imported. Check the file name, that the card is FAT32 and that the file is in the root folder, then repeat the reset.
  • “Not registered on network”: check the camera is the Europe version and the SIM is activated in the portal. Reolink documents no roaming setting on these cameras.
  • Signal but no data: check the SIM is activated in the ThingSIM portal, the APN matches the one shown in the portal exactly with no spaces, and data roaming is allowed. Then work through signal but no data in order.
  • It worked, then stopped: look at the SIM's usage in the portal. A ThingSIM pauses when it reaches its monthly allowance; upgrade the plan straight away or wait for the reset.

Common Questions

Yes, in the Europe version of the Go Series. Insert the nano SIM and load the APN shown in your ThingSIM portal from a my_custom_apn.txt file on a microSD card.

There isn't one. Reolink imports a custom APN from a my_custom_apn.txt file on the microSD card, followed by a reset.

It depends on motion events and live viewing. Start on 1 GB a month, £2.40 on UK 4-network, and check usage in the portal after a week.
