# UK 4-network vs 3-network IoT SIMs

> Which ThingSIM UK plan to choose, and when the cheaper 3-network plan is the right one.

ThingSIM has two UK options. Both are the same SIM, the same portal and the same terms. The only difference is which mobile networks the SIM is allowed to use.

### What does "4-network" mean?

The SIM isn't tied to one operator. It can connect to any of O2, Vodafone, Three and EE and uses whichever gives the best signal where the device is. If that network has a problem, the SIM can move to another.

### When should I choose UK 4-network?

Choose 4-network for devices that move (trackers, vans, traffic management kit), devices that must not miss a message (alarms, payment terminals, failover routers), and anywhere you haven't checked the signal. Having EE available matters most in rural areas and inside buildings where it is sometimes the only strong signal.

### When is UK 3-network the better choice?

For devices in a fixed place where you know O2, Vodafone or Three is strong, such as meters, loggers and sensors in towns. The 3-network plan costs less at every size, and nothing else changes.
