The Robustel R1510 is a compact industrial LTE Cat 4 router used for telemetry, meters and remote PLCs. It takes a mini SIM, and a ThingSIM connects once the APN is entered in the RobustOS Link Manager.

## What the R1510 Is

A small DIN-rail-friendly industrial router running RobustOS. A separate model, the R1510e, has an embedded eSIM.

## Which ThingSIM Suits the R1510

**Compatible.** Robustel lists LTE bands 1, 3, 7, 8, 20 and 28 for its EMEA versions (order codes A004800707, A004800711 and A004800712, UKCA certified), with 2G on bands 3 and 8 as a fallback, covering the bands used by all four UK networks. Robustel's product page lists **one mini SIM (2FF)**, so order a **physical ThingSIM** at the largest size.

For telemetry and occasional remote access, **UK 4-network 250 MB** at £1.20 a month is a good start; move up to 1 GB if you log in remotely often.

## Insert the SIM

1. Activate the SIM in the ThingSIM portal when you are ready to test; billing starts that day.
2. With the router powered off, insert the mini SIM into the SIM slot and refit the sticker that covers it, as Robustel's hardware manual shows.
3. Power the router on.

## Set Up Mobile Data in RobustOS

1. Log in to the web interface and go to **Interface → Link Manager**. Set **Primary Link** to WWAN1.
2. Under Link Settings, click **Edit** on WWAN1.
3. In WWAN Settings, switch **Automatic APN Selection** off. In the **APN** field, enter the APN shown in your ThingSIM portal when you activate the SIM, leave the username and password blank and set Authentication Type to Auto.
4. Click **Submit**, then **Save & Apply**.
5. If the SIM has a PIN, enter it under **Interface → Cellular**, editing SIM1.

## Check It Is Working

**Status → Modem Status** shows registration, network provider, network type and signal strength (RSRP, RSRQ, SINR). **Interface → Cellular → Status** shows the ICCID, band and APN in use, and **Status → Internet Status** shows the active link and its IP address.

## Troubleshooting

- **Roaming:** RobustOS has no cellular data-roaming switch in its manual, so there is nothing to turn on. If the router registers but gets no data, check the APN under WWAN1 first.
- **Wrong APN keeps coming back:** Automatic APN Selection is still on. Switch it off before entering the APN.
- **Signal but no data:** check the SIM is activated in the ThingSIM portal, the APN matches the one shown in the portal exactly with no spaces, and data roaming is allowed. Then work through [signal but no data](/sim-signal-but-no-data) in order.
- **It worked, then stopped:** look at the SIM's usage in the portal. A ThingSIM pauses when it reaches its monthly allowance; upgrade the plan straight away or wait for the reset.

## Common Questions

### Does a ThingSIM work in a Robustel R1510?

Yes, in the EMEA versions. Insert the mini SIM and enter the APN shown in your ThingSIM portal under Interface → Link Manager → WWAN1, with Automatic APN Selection off.

### Can I use a ThingSIM eSIM in an R1510?

No. The R1510 takes a physical SIM; the R1510e is the version with an embedded eSIM.
