The Milesight UR32 is a compact industrial 4G router with two SIM slots, used in cabinets, kiosks and control panels. A ThingSIM connects once its APN is set and roaming is switched on in the router's cellular settings.

## What the UR32 Is

An industrial LTE Cat 4 router with Ethernet ports and optional Wi-Fi, running Milesight's web interface. It has two SIM slots and uses one at a time. The UR32L and UR32 Lite are separate products with their own manuals.

## Which ThingSIM Suits the UR32

**Compatible.** Milesight's EU cellular module (L04EU) for the UR3x family lists LTE bands 1, 3, 7, 8, 20 and 28, covering the 4G bands used by all four UK networks. Check the model code on the label; Milesight's naming puts the module after the model, as in UR32-L04EU. The router takes **mini SIMs (2FF)** in two slots, so order a **physical ThingSIM** at the largest size. No eSIM is listed.

For telemetry, a PLC or a card terminal, **UK 4-network 1 GB** at £2.40 a month is a safe start; for remote access to a camera, size up. See [how much data does my device need](/how-much-data-does-my-device-need).

## Insert the SIM

1. Activate the SIM in the ThingSIM portal when you are ready to test; billing starts that day.
2. Turn the power off. Milesight says the UR32 does not support hot plugging.
3. Unscrew and remove the SIM cover, put the mini SIM in the SIM1 slot and screw the cover back on.
4. Check the antennas are connected and power the router on.

## Set Up Mobile Data on the UR32

1. Log in to the router's web interface and go to **Network → Interface → Cellular → Cellular Setting**, then edit **SIM1**.
2. In **SIM-APN**, switch **Auto APN** off. In the **APN** field, enter the APN shown in your ThingSIM portal when you activate the SIM, leave the username and password blank and set Authentication Type to None.
3. In **SIM Setting**, switch **Roaming** on. A ThingSIM connects to UK networks as a roaming SIM. Leave PIN Code empty unless the SIM has a PIN.
4. Click **Save**, then **Apply**.
5. Make sure the SIM1 rule is enabled under **Network → Interface → Link Failover**.

## Two SIMs and Failover

The UR32 uses one SIM at a time. Under **Network → Interface → Link Failover**, enable both SIM rules and set their priority. Each SIM can switch on data limit, SMS limit, weak signal, dial failure or ping failure, and the router can revert to the higher-priority link after a set interval. One UK 4-network ThingSIM already uses all four UK networks, so a second SIM mainly helps where a different provider is wanted.

## Check It Is Working

**Status → Cellular** shows the current SIM, register status, network, network type, signal quality (RSSI, RSRP, SINR) and data usage, with Connected once the link is up. The SIM LED is green for SIM1 and orange for SIM2.

## Troubleshooting

- **Registered but no data:** Roaming is off, or Auto APN has picked a different APN. Turn Roaming on and enter the APN by hand.
- **Signal but no data:** check the SIM is activated in the ThingSIM portal, the APN matches the one shown in the portal exactly with no spaces, and data roaming is allowed. Then work through [signal but no data](/sim-signal-but-no-data) in order.
- **It worked, then stopped:** look at the SIM's usage in the portal. A ThingSIM pauses when it reaches its monthly allowance; upgrade the plan straight away or wait for the reset.

## Common Questions

### Does a ThingSIM work in a Milesight UR32?

Yes. Insert the mini SIM, turn Auto APN off and enter the APN shown in your ThingSIM portal, switch Roaming on, then Save and Apply.

### Can I use two ThingSIMs in a UR32 for failover?

Yes, but each active SIM is billed separately, and one UK 4-network ThingSIM already uses all four UK networks.
