# Robustel router SIM cards, tested with ThingSIM

> Robustel's R-series routers and EG gateways run RobustOS and are managed from RCMS. Most are dual-SIM, and a ThingSIM connects once its APN is set on the SIM profile.

## Setting up a ThingSIM in RobustOS and RCMS

The APN goes in **Interface → Link Manager → WWAN1 (RobustOS); Interface → Cellular → SIM1 (RobustOS Pro)**.

1. Activate the SIM in the ThingSIM portal, then insert it in slot 1 (SIM1) with the router powered off.
2. On RobustOS, go to Interface → Link Manager, set the primary link to WWAN1 and edit it. On RobustOS Pro (EG gateways), go to Interface → Cellular and edit SIM1.
3. Turn Automatic APN Selection off, enter the APN from the portal and leave the username and password blank.
4. On RobustOS Pro, leave While Roaming switching off, which is the default. A ThingSIM always connects as a roaming SIM.
5. Click Submit, then Save & Apply.
6. Interface → Cellular → Status shows SIM detection and signal. The dashboard shows the internet address once connected.

**Two SIMs:** RobustOS sets the primary and backup links in Interface → Link Manager (WWAN1 is slot 1, WWAN2 slot 2). RobustOS Pro has Primary SIM, Auto Switching and Auto Revert under Interface → Cellular.

**Checking it works:** Interface → Cellular → Status and the dashboard on the router. RCMS shows status across a fleet, and RobustOS Pro keeps per-SIM traffic statistics.

## Questions

### Does a ThingSIM work in a Robustel R1510?

Yes. Insert the SIM, set the APN from the portal in RobustOS and the router connects on the strongest UK network.

### Can a Robustel switch to a second SIM if one loses data?

Yes, the dual-SIM models fail over between SIMs. With a UK 4-network ThingSIM in the main slot, one SIM already covers all four networks.

Suggested plan: 250 MB, UK 4-network, £1.20 a month per active SIM, ex VAT.
