# InHand router SIM cards, tested with ThingSIM

> InHand's IR industrial routers, IG edge gateways and VG vehicle gateways are common in vending, utilities and transport. A ThingSIM connects once its APN is set in the router's cellular settings.

## Setting up a ThingSIM in the InHand router web interface and InHand Cloud

The APN goes in **Network → Cellular (some firmware: Network → Dialup)**.

1. Activate the SIM in the ThingSIM portal, then insert it in SIM1.
2. Log in to the router (192.168.2.1 by default), go to Network → Cellular and tick Enable.
3. Set SIM1's network provider to Profile 1.
4. Edit profile 1 in the profiles table. Enter the APN from the portal, set authentication to none or auto, leave the username and password blank, and click OK.
5. Click Apply at the bottom of the page.
6. The Status page then shows the modem registered and roaming, with an IP address.

**Two SIMs:** Under the cellular page's advanced options, Dual SIM Enable makes SIM1 the main SIM and switches to SIM2 after SIM1 fails to dial a set number of times (five by default). Give SIM2 its own profile.

**Checking it works:** The Status page shows registration, roaming and the IP address. InHand Cloud shows the same across a fleet.

## Questions

### Does a ThingSIM work in an InHand IR302?

Yes. Insert the SIM, set the APN from the portal in the cellular dial-up settings and the router connects.

### Can I manage many InHand routers at once?

Yes, from InHand Cloud. ThingSIM's own portal shows each SIM's status and usage alongside it.

Suggested plan: 250 MB, UK 4-network, £1.20 a month per active SIM, ex VAT.
