# Dragino LoRaWAN gateway SIM cards, tested with ThingSIM

> Dragino's LoRaWAN gateways are a low-cost way to cover a farm, a building or a site, and the 4G versions need no wired line. A ThingSIM gives the gateway its uplink.

## Setting up a ThingSIM in the Dragino gateway web interface

The APN goes in **Network → Cellular (LPS8N: System → Cellular)**.

1. Activate the SIM in the ThingSIM portal, insert it (a micro SIM on the LPS8v2) and power-cycle so it is detected.
2. Check the label shows the 4G modem is fitted (EC25).
3. Go to Network → Cellular, or System → Cellular on the LPS8N.
4. Tick Enable and enter the APN from the portal. Leave the PIN code, username and password blank.
5. Save & Apply.
6. On the home page a green tick on the cell icon means the gateway is online over 4G.

**Two SIMs:** Dragino gateways take one SIM. 4G can be the main uplink or a backup used only while Ethernet or Wi-Fi is down.

**Checking it works:** The cell icon on the home page is green when online over 4G, yellow when 4G is up but standing by as backup, and red with no connection.

- **DLOS8** (no longer sold): LoRaWAN gateway, 4G LTE Cat 4, 1 × size unconfirmed, Wi-Fi. Outdoor LoRaWAN gateway (superseded by DLOS8N).

### Does a ThingSIM work in a Dragino DLOS8?

Yes, in the 4G version. Insert the SIM, set the APN from the portal in the cellular settings and the gateway connects.

### How much data does a Dragino gateway use?

Most fit in 250 MB a month, £1.20 on UK 4-network. Check the first month's usage in the portal.
